About Project
Luther College, nestled in the scenic town of Decorah, Iowa, is a distinguished private liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) that emphasizes whole-person education in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences.
When Luther College approached Carnegie for website redesign, their primary aim was to implement a web presence capable of growing with them not merely a static site for today but a platform ready to scale for tomorrow. They needed a flexible architecture that could accommodate new academic programs, initiatives, and content expansions over time, while preserving the coherence of their brand and quality of user experience. I was contracted to implement the custom design for this site.

The Luther College website was built using a custom WordPress theme powered by Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), giving the college complete control over content while maintaining design consistency across hundreds of pages. Each section of the site — from academic programs and faculty profiles to admissions and student life — was structured with flexible ACF field groups that allow editors to manage complex layouts through an intuitive interface.
This ACF-driven approach provided the scalability Luther College needed for long-term growth. New content types, page templates, and dynamic modules can be added without rewriting code, ensuring the site evolves alongside the institution. By combining clean, modular design with the power of ACF, the result is a fast, maintainable, and future-ready website that gives editors confidence to update and expand their digital presence independently.
